StarForest

RESULTS

An innovative curriculum that creates new competencies for adult education, developed taking into account the achievements, skills, and knowledge that adults should acquire about multifunctional forests, sustainable forest management, the use of non-timber forest products (mushrooms, chestnuts, wild fruits, resin, pine nuts, medicinal plants, honey, other bee products, etc.), the importance of forests for climate change mitigation, and forests as a sustainable source of resources and services for society.

Educational resources for adult learners on the topics established by the Curriculum, designed to be practical, didactic, and engaging, including support schemes, informational texts, visual aids, and other pedagogical support materials, among other educational resources.

A practical manual for trainer training with several teaching units, developed considering the new competencies designed and following the content structure of the previous materials. The manual includes information and activities to support the professional development of teachers, trainers, and educators; not only informational texts about topics related to the sustainable use of forests but also educational methods adapted to the abilities of adult learners. It also includes useful references to Open Educational Resources (OER), materials and educational activities, audiovisual aids, and any other pedagogical support.

This E-learning platform is one of the main results of this work package. It is an open and interactive educational resource with free access. This virtual tool allows not only the provision of materials and educational resources adapted to adults' skills but also the exchange of information and experiences among different European countries. It will include various educational and training results produced by the project.

"SUSTAINABLE USE OF MULTIFUNCTIONAL FORESTS AND THEIR NON-TIMBER PRODUCTS AS A SOURCE OF EMPLOYMENT AND ENVIRONMENTAL SUSTAINABILITY" is a modular training course following the competency unit scheme of the designed STAR FOREST Curriculum, giving special importance to the harvesting of non-timber forest products (such as mushrooms, chestnuts, and other wild fruits, resin, pine nuts, medicinal plants, and honey, among others). It is the main content of the Star Forest portal and will be permanently available.

The training portal includes complementary content of interest in the form of training pills, mainly short videos no longer than 15 minutes, where specific concepts or topics will be explained in depth. These are also e-learning training material but more visual, didactic and engaging (infographics).

An online pilot course was run to evaluate the project’s modules and competency units, assessing their relevance, clarity, coherence, applicability, and alignment with learning objectives and target group needs.

Participants completed modules, did practical activities, and provided feedback via questionnaires. The results led to identified improvements, documented in an evaluation report that validates the process and guides the final optimisation of the programme.
